G'dang, seems like this here blog was a purdy bad ideer, seeing as how there don't seem to be a whole lotta anything going on this time of year with the politcal yakkers.
Oh wait, Presidential election time! I almost forgot.
The presidential campaign brings out the best in America and our leaders-to-be...faux astonishment at what the opponent says, talk of change knowing full it's just a whole bunch of bluster, misquoting the opponent, media spins and just downright dirty tricks.
Let's face it, the campaigning process is a disgustingly dirty process. It's a shame that the media does such a poor job of running stories of substance and the ones they do publish we do such a poor job of reading. We should do a better job of holding our leaders accountable; too many of us either don't vote or don't care enough about what our leaders do when we do vote them into office. But right now the system is what we have made it and it's only going to be as good as the effort we put into the process. Right now, that effort isn't too terribly much.
Every single day I wake up and start reading the news and am constantly disappointed at the lack of honest, constructive, fact-finding dialogue that goes on in the media and between ourselves about who we are voting on, what they stand for and what they have done for us lately. There's plenty of communication going on about the candidates for President but very little of it is of any actual value.
So, this is where I try to inspire that communication. I'm not going to present the media's version of "he said, she said" you decide. I think that there are rights and wrongs in this world and if I see a right or a wrong I'm going to point it out. But it's not going to be a knee-jerk reaction based on party politics. And, I'd like to think that I approach the discussion honestly, meaning that if you support a case backed up with facts that appears better than mine, that there is a possibility to convert me to your side. Pundits charmed with the sound of their own voice who repeat party talking points are a poor substitute for real political discussion.
Perhaps you've already noticed by the title of this blog but I don't think that John McCain would make a very good president of the United States. This is not based on one particular thing, but rather his body of work. Over the next two months I hope to present this body of work and either confirm your beliefs or convert you to my side. Of course, I'd like to think that if you present a better case than what I have you can convert me to your side.
Maybe?
